Número de polos:
- La Pista Maestra (Master-track) se refiere al recuento de polos de la pista magnética principal en un imán de anillo. La mayoría de los imanes de anillo, como los de motores o codificadores incrementales, tienen solo una pista magnética.
- Sin embargo, los imanes de anillo para codificadores absolutos o imanes de anillo para codificadores con puntos de referencia también tienen una Pista Nonius (Nonius-track). Esto significa que tienen dos pistas magnéticas, como se muestra en la imagen.
- Los imanes de ferrita también se llaman ferrita sinterizada o imanes de ferrita dura. Parecen y están hechos como cerámica, por lo que algunos los llaman imanes cerámicos. Estos imanes son baratos de fabricar en grandes cantidades, aunque los costos de los moldes son altos. Son muy buenos resistiendo el óxido y las altas temperaturas, hasta 250℃. Los imanes de ferrita son precisos y de bajo costo para codificadores. Pero, pueden romperse fácilmente si se sacuden mucho, como en robots para exteriores. Para esos, el material de imán de caucho vulcanizado es más estable.
- Los imanes de ferrita moldeados por inyección se fabrican mezclando polvo magnético de ferrita con aglutinantes plásticos como Nylon (PA6 o 12) o PPS. Esta mezcla se moldea por inyección, lo que significa que se le da forma usando un molde. Estos imanes incluso se pueden moldear directamente sobre un eje de metal. Pueden funcionar en temperaturas de hasta 150°C.
Los imanes de neodimio aglomerados (bonded) se fabrican mezclando polvo magnético de neodimio con un aglutinante.
En pocas palabras, son moldeados por inyección, lo que significa que contienen un aglutinante. Aproximadamente el 80% del imán es polvo de neodimio y el 20% restante es aglutinante.

Los imanes de neodimio moldeados por inyección se fabrican mezclando polvo magnético de neodimio con termoplástico. Esta mezcla se moldea por inyección. Estos imanes son más fuertes que los imanes de ferrita moldeados por inyección.
Los imanes de neodimio moldeados por inyección se pueden fabricar en muchas formas. Pueden ser pequeños o irregulares. Puede magnetizarlos con múltiples polos o patrones complejos. También son muy precisos y consistentes en su forma.

Los imanes de NdFeB sinterizados también se llaman imanes de Neodimio Sinterizados. Estos son los imanes permanentes más fuertes conocidos. Están hechos de neodimio (Nd), hierro (Fe), boro (B) y otros elementos de tierras raras.
Estos imanes crean campos magnéticos muy fuertes y permanecen magnéticos a temperatura ambiente. Se pueden fabricar en muchas formas. Esto los hace excelentes para muchos usos, especialmente para motores comerciales de alta gama.

Sin embargo, estos imanes pueden corroerse fácilmente y se ven afectados por altas temperaturas. Por lo tanto, generalmente están recubiertos (a menudo con una capa de níquel-cobre-níquel) para protegerlos. Agregar elementos pesados de tierras raras también les ayuda a resistir temperaturas más altas.
- El material de imán de caucho vulcanizado se fabrica cuando se agrega polvo magnético al caucho durante un proceso llamado vulcanización. Este proceso cambia la estructura del caucho, haciéndolo mucho más fuerte, elástico y estable. Los imanes de caucho vulcanizado se utilizan a menudo para objetivos magnéticos en robots deportivos. Son flexibles y no se rompen fácilmente por golpes.
- Los imanes de caucho están hechos de polvo magnético mezclado con caucho sintético. Se forman por extrusión, calandrado o moldeo por inyección. Puede hacerlos en tiras, rollos, láminas, bloques, anillos y muchas otras formas. Sus principales ventajas son que son flexibles y se pueden hacer en varias formas. Sin embargo, su desventaja es que no son muy fuertes (no tienen alta remanencia) en comparación con los imanes de neodimio. Para codificadores, los imanes de caucho regulares no pueden satisfacer las necesidades de alta precisión. Solo son buenos para codificadores incrementales de una sola pista.
